Bio

I am a Professor in the Economics Department and codirector of the Latin American and Latino Studies Program at Queens College, CUNY. I am also a faculty member at the Graduate Center, CUNY and a Research Economist in the Program of International Trade and Investment at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).  I am the 2025 President-Elect of the American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE).

Research Interests

My research interests include  international trade, foreign direct investment, multinational firms, economic development and labor economics.  My publications have focused on the impact of trade liberalization on labor markets in Mexico and firm performance in Thailand, foreign direct investment in the U.S., Eastern Europe and Asia, the repeal of IRC Section 936 tax credits on survival rates of manufacturing establishments in Puerto Rico, and Mexican and Puerto Rican migration.
